Baby boom in Veeningen: rusk with mice at five families in one street

The birth of one or two babies in the same street still wants to happen in almost a month, but five babies? That’s a lot more exceptional. It happened in Veeningen, where five mothers were all due in close succession in November last year. In the end, four babies were born in November. Nienke Wiersema’s son, Ilvar, was born at the beginning of December.

According to Wiersema, the five have been dating each other for some time, even before their children were born. As a result, the mothers already knew during their pregnancy that the number of residents of De Waag would take off. “In the group app, while walking and once at my house it became clear that we were all pregnant”, Wiersema laughs.

Thijn, Cato, Emmelien, Yara and Ilvar are now almost six months old and all children are healthy. In the street there was mainly a positive reaction to the arrival of the two boys and three girls. “People in the neighborhood were amazed and especially thought it was special that we were all pregnant at the same time.” According to Wiersema, a neighbor has ensured that each garden has its own nameplate with the happy news.
