BA Contemporary Dance 2022: the best of the arts of movement

Since 2001, the Buenos Aires Contemporary Dance Festival 2022 implies one of the most important cultural events in the region. In each edition, it brings together the best of dance, both from the local and foreign scene, with international projects and local productions. For 7 days, from October 28 to November 3, the 2022 edition will be held with 150 artists on stage in 18 venues.

The opening of the national programming will take place on October 28 at 2:30 p.m. in Room A of the San Martin Cultural Center. will be presented “Stand By” under the direction of Mariana Belloto. The work seeks to redefine pandemic memories on top of a stage that mimics a waiting room, where the human force of choreography and technological intervention come into play.

For its part, the opening of the international programming will be at 9:00 p.m. May 25 Cultural Center. The piece will be presented “velocity” from the korean company Modern Dance Table. Combining traditional Korean dance with contemporary movement, eight dancers, propelled by the rhythmic sounds of live Ajaeng music, display extraordinary physical prowess on a journey powered by different speeds.

“This year the festival returns that turns the City into a great stage for contemporary dance. With crosses between choreographers from different countries and local companies we will be able to enjoy what is happening in the world with a very interesting and enriching exchange. Neighbors from Buenos Aires and tourists are once again part of BA Dancediscovering styles, aesthetics and knowing the expressiveness of this art”, he affirms Vivi Cantoniundersecretary of cultural management of the city of Buenos Aires.

The festival will close its program with the piece “Eclipse. Black and hot”. The authors Carlos Casella and Gustavo Lesgart They will revisit their work in a new and updated version made especially for the festival. It will be on Thursday, November 3 at 9:00 p.m. in Room A of El Cultural San Martín. In addition, a virtual project will be carried out “Virtual Ghost” by Kesha Raithathaa piece in which the British artist will intervene audiovisually on the landscapes and buildings of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.

“We are pleased to be able to share the Buenos Aires Contemporary Dance Festival. Continuing with the heritage and spirit of previous editions, this one will be like a kind of Big Bang where dance explodes generating different universes scattered throughout the city of Buenos Aires, a system that orbits around movement and its diversity as a organizing axis; thus each of these universes will be a whole in itself and at the same time will form a singular and unique framework that will account for the vibrant production that identifies us”, he declares Roxanne Grinsteinartistic director of BA Contemporary Dance 2022.
