AZ without Karlsson looking for much needed goals against Anderlecht: “Proved that it is possible”

It will be a tough, but not impossible job for AZ. The Alkmaarders have to brush away a 2-0 defeat against Anderlecht in the quarterfinals of the Conference League. The injured Jesper Karlsson is missing from the Alkmaarders. For the Swedish attacker, the game against the number ten in Belgium comes too early.

AZ ended the dip in form last weekend to win 0-3 at Fortuna Sittard. Before that, Jansen’s team had not won four games in a row. Anderlecht just took a hit. Purple-white kept a clean sheet for six games in a row, but lost 5-2 at league-leader Genk on Sunday.

“We have full faith to be able to make the necessary goals to continue”

AZ coach Pascal Jansen

Pascal Jansen has of course carefully watched that duel in the Belgian league. “I saw that Genk had the same plans as us in Brussels. Only at Genk the implementation was much better. It was a confirmation that our plan was good, only our implementation was not good and Genk’s was.”

AZ therefore needs goals against Anderlecht. Fortunately, Jansen has a fit Vangelis Pavlidis at his disposal in the search for goals. Bruno Martins Indi and Dani de Wit have been injured for some time and are therefore not participating.

Full faith

Jansen’s selection can rely on a good number of goals in the previous round of the Conference League against Lazio. “We have shown that we have been able to score four goals over two games against Italy’s number two. So we have full faith to be able to score the necessary goals to continue.”

The match between AZ and Anderlecht starts tomorrow at 6.45 pm. The stadium in Alkmaar is sold out.
