These are contractually good months for Kees Smit. AZ’s great talent signed a new contract again today. The reason: he recently celebrated his eighteenth birthday, which means the Alkmaar club can sign him for even longer. Smit is now in office until the summer of 2028.
One day after his eighteenth birthday, Kees Smit signed his new contract. His previous contract ran until the summer of 2026 and the midfielder from Heiloo signed that agreement last November.
In 2015, Smit moved from amateur club De Foresters to AZ. He then went through the entire youth academy at the Alkmaar club. An official debut was not yet possible, but he makes his minutes for Jong AZ in the first division every week.

Smit gained national fame last year when he scored beautifully on behalf of AZ against FC Barcelona. He managed to find the enemy goal from the halfway line and was partly responsible for a resounding 3-0 victory over the Spanish superpower and the later victory in the Youth League.
