Vangelis Pavlidis was worth gold for AZ today in the 3-1 victory over RKC Waalwijk. The Greek striker scored twice and seems to be in good shape early in the season. “This is a good start. Hopefully I can continue like this.”
With Pavlidis’ first goal, it seemed very likely that RKC defender Dario van den Buijs would score the goal. “I think it’s my goal, because I’m shooting at goal,” Pavlidis said afterwards. “The ball still changes direction, but that’s the rules of football.”
“I’m not going to put a number on it”
The 24-year-old top scorer of the Alkmaarders does not want to make any predictions about his grand total after his strong start to the season. “I’m not going to put a number on it. I just do my best every week. I don’t want to focus on a certain number of goals.”

AZ coach Pascal Jansen was happy that the team was able to turn the tide in the second half. “We must quickly forget the first half. That was far below our level,” said Jansen, who already made two substitutions at halftime. “I also paid a big compliment to the guys who came on, because they really added something. And they brought what we needed.”
