AZ says goodbye to Ron Vlaar for cup match against Ajax

AZ will say goodbye to club icon Ron Vlaar prior to the cup smash against Ajax. The football player from Hensbroek played 136 matches for the Alkmaar club.

Vlaar made his debut on April 23, 2005 for AZ against RKC Waalwijk. In 2006 Vlaar left for Feyenoord and then played for Aston Villa in the English Premier League for three years. In 2015, Vlaar returned to the club where he enjoyed his youth academy. ‘Ron Beton’ was also good for 32 international matches and came third with the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

After his career as a football player, Vlaar remained active at AZ. For example, he is now on the field at AZ 1 once a week and is assistant coach at AZ Under 17.
