AZ has secured the fourth reinforcement for the new season. The 22-year-old Portuguese Tiago Dantas comes to Alkmaar from SL Benfica on a rental basis for a year. The Alkmaarders have also negotiated an option to buy.
Dontas played his entire youth in Benfica’s academy. He played one game in the first team of the Portuguese team. He was previously rented out to Bayern Munich, CD Tondela and PAOK Saloniki. Remarkably enough, AZ and the Greeks met in preparation last season. With Dantas inside the line it became 2-2.

Last summer, Dantas played at the U-21 European Championship. The end station was the quarterfinals, in which the later winner England was too strong. “It feels like a privilege to be here. I’m really looking forward to starting here. AZ is a very good club for the development of young players,” said the Portuguese about his first impression.
Exhibition game with PAOK
AZ’s exhibition game with PAOK Saloniki was also discussed: “I still remember that match. AZ was strong and I really noticed the positive attitude to the game. That helped my choice to go to AZ. AZ would like to have the ball, dominate and have the initiative.”
Director of football affairs: “After the transfer of Tijjani Reijnders and the rental periods of Peer Koopmeiners and Zico Buurmeester, we wanted to give our midfield extra body. With the return of Kenzo Goudmijn and the arrival of Tiago, we again have plenty of options to create a strong and well-occupied midfield.”
