AZ players Reijnders and Jansen watch Orange in peace at home: “With a delicious cup of tea”

Despite the fact that the World Cup in Qatar is still in full swing, AZ trained for the first time on Tuesday after a period of vacation and rest. Of course coach Pascal Jansen and midfielder Tijjani Reijnders follow the tournament closely. “It is a diverse World Cup, but very nice to see,” said Jansen.

This Friday, many Dutch people will watch the quarter final against Argentina with great interest, be it in the pub or at home on the couch. Reijnders opts for the latter. “I’m going to watch with my wife and some friends. But most of my friends will go to the pub to watch. I won’t be there.”

“If they manage to control Lionel Messi well, I say 2-1 for the Netherlands.”

Jansen also opts for the warmth of his own living room. “I’ll sit on the couch in time with a delicious cup of tea. Then I’ll enjoy two great teams, with great players. And of course I hope that the Netherlands will advance to the next round,” said Jansen, who predicts that the Netherlands will go through to the cup. “If they manage to control Lionel Messi well, I say 2-1 for the Netherlands.”

Fixed patterns

Tijjani Reijnders also discussed the possible advantage AZ has over Ajax and PSV, that the Alkmaar club has to give up fewer players to countries participating in the World Cup. “That can ultimately be an advantage for us. We can train with the entire group again. Moreover, we can now get fixed patterns in the team again. On the other hand, the players who are now at the World Cup will stay in the rhythm playing many matches,” said Reijnders after AZ’s training.
