Mees de Wit graced his basic debut in the Eredivisie for AZ with a goal. The summer acquisition was responsible for the equalizer in the 2-1 victory over Ajax. Afterwards it was a party in the dressing room of the Alkmaarders. “Shouting, clapping. Everyone was happy of course.”
De Wit started as a left half against the fellow provincial from Amsterdam, while he usually operates more in the back line. “Bruno Martins Indi already said at training yesterday that I might be able to play. After the training, the trainer came to me and told me that he wanted to use me as a left half,” said de Wit about his somewhat surprising starting position.
“In the warm-up I shot every ball and I thought: shoot with the left one!”
“It took some getting used to in the beginning, but then I knew where I had to stand. I think I helped the team well,” says De Wit, who confidently scored the equalizer. “In the warm-up I shot every ball in and I thought: shoot with the left one! I think I took my chance today.”
teasing spirit
Pascal Jansen remained unbeaten against Ajax for the third match in a row. The AZ trainer is thus gradually becoming a real teasing spirit for the reigning national champion. “Let’s keep that up for the time being. We are playing a great game today and played according to our plan. Ajax even started playing va-banque in the final phase”, Jansen saw.
