AZ goalkeeper Mathew Ryan in Australia selection despite injury

It seems that AZ will not have Mathew Ryan available in the coming weeks. The goalkeeper is recovering from an injury but is in Australia’s selection for the Asian Cup. Now the big question is whether AZ will attract a new goalkeeper this winter period.

The Asian Championship will be held from January 12 to February 10 in Qatar. The Australian Football Association announced on its website that despite his cheekbone injury, Ryan is still in the selection for the national team. In the coming weeks he will work on his fitness together with the medical staff.

His selection is not yet 100 percent certain, but there seems to be a good chance that Ryan will play at the Asian Cup. Ryan ran one on December 10th injury to his head after an accident at the gym.

AZ looking for a goalkeeper?

Reserve goalkeeper Hobie Verhulst is also out for the time being with a knee injury. AZ coach Pascal Jansen announced last week that he will discuss the possible recruitment of a new goalkeeper with director of technical affairs Max Huiberts.

Last week in the cup match against HHC Hardenberg (3-2 win), 19-year-old Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro was on goal. There were two young AZ goalkeepers on the reserve bench: 18-year-old Tristan Kuijsten and 17-year-old Kiyani Zeggen. So the question is whether AZ dares to enter the new year with these young goalkeepers.
