Wouter Goes and Sven Mijnans both made their debut tonight in the first of AZ against FC Volendam. Goes replaced Zinho Vanheusden in the center of the defence. Mijnans came over from Sparta Rotterdam this week and came in after the break.
It was a nice milestone for Goes to make his debut, but the disappointment prevailed afterwards. “The first half didn’t go well and after the break it went better. If you look at the result, 1-1, that’s the most important thing and not good.”
The central defender heard yesterday that he would play. “Bazoer would first be on the defensive, but of course he fell out. That leaves a number of options and luckily the trainer chose me. Now is the time to take your chance, so I’m glad I got to play.”
Sven Mijnans has been walking around in Alkmaar for two days and did not expect to start. He has a contract until mid-2028 and is being prepared to replace Dani de Wit. “I had the feeling that the club had a plan, that was the deciding factor. They also have a nice way of playing football, they always want to attack. That suits me.”
