AZ coach Pascal Jansen does not agree with Sam Beukema: ‘Every defeat is annoying’ | Dutch football

AZ coach Pascal Jansen does not think that his players will take the pain of the unexpected defeat at Apollon Limassol (1-0) to Sunday’s top match against Feyenoord. ,,We are not that unstable,’ he said this afternoon during the press moment before the match against Feyenoord.

Jansen was, however, extremely dissatisfied with the loss in Cyprus, especially in the way in which it was done. ,,The coordination in the final phase was very poor. We really fell short in attacking terms.”

AZ also conceded a goal from a corner, a problem that sometimes reared its head, especially last season. ,,We really fell short in that, we talked about that just before the game.”

Jansen heard his defender Sam Beukema say that the defeat against Apollon may come at a good time after all those wins. ,,But I think every defeat is one too many and always annoying. But we are drawing our lessons from this and are very much looking forward to the duel with Feyenoord.”

AZ already won the first match against Ajax this season (2-1 on September 18) against a club from the traditional top three, as the club often manages to win such duels under coach Pascal Jansen. He did not want to say whether he would like to add a tactical nuance to Feyenoord as against Ajax. “In principle, we rely on our own strength. But Feyenoord is an interesting club with many new players. They’re building a new team and you know it can take some trial and error. It is a selection with many good players.”

Against Apollon, Jansen chose to let Riechedly Bazoer start for the first time since coming to the club this summer, but it is still the question whether he will also start against Feyenoord. ,,We are busy getting Bazoer to gain experience in midfield again, because he has mainly played in defense in recent years. In our opinion, he can handle different positions.”

In the match in Cyprus, Jesper Karlsson was preferred over Myron van Brederode, who broke through this season. Jansen had no problem with that choice. “Otherwise I would have had to choose a different profession. It’s a team sport and I make the choices that are best for the team,” said Jansen.
