AZ coach Jansen hopes for fan support against competitor Twente: “Right to emotions”

After a few football-free weeks, AZ will resume the competition against FC Twente this weekend. According to Pascal Jansen, there are many similarities between his own team AZ and the opponent from Enschede. “The style of play is similar and we both play football with a lot of energy.”

“We are now playing a match against a competitor for place 3,” Pascal Jansen said a day before the match. The Alkmaarders are in fourth position in the rankings and have one point less than FC Twente. “This is an important moment, but this is only matchday 17 and therefore still many matches to go.”

Dani de Wit

Now that the transfer market is open again, there is a lot of speculation about the future of Vangelis Pavlidis. “He will play tomorrow,” Jansen said clearly about his Greek top scorer. Dani de Wit is also in the selection and will most likely start as an attacking midfielder. Earlier this season, De Wit was on the bench a few times and he made it clear that he did not agree with that. “I have not spoken to Dani about his future, because besides him there are more players who are dissatisfied. And at the moment he is just an AZ player.”

The Alkmaarders entered the winter break at the end of December with a sour feeling. A hopeless defeat against PSV (0-4) in front of their own audience and Jansen’s team barely advanced after a narrow victory in extra time against amateur club HHC. “That left a bad taste, but we have now touched on everything and we are aiming for a good start in the second half of the season.”

Audience

Yet the Alkmaar supporters have made it known through whistle concerts and white handkerchiefs that there is dissatisfaction. “The public is entitled to its own emotions, but I am concentrating on my own team. I do hope that the public will get behind the team again tomorrow.”

Jansen does not yet have access to the injured Sven Mijnans against the Tukkers. However, he is training with the group again. Mees de Wit is also not there. The left back has now recovered from his injury, but is now down with the flu. Furthermore, Yukinari Sugawara (Japan) and goalkeeper Mathew Ryan are absent due to the Asian Cup.

FC Twente – AZ starts tomorrow evening at 6.45 pm. You will find the match report on this site afterwards.
