AZ coach Jansen has done homework well: “They are strong mutineers”

Despite the fact that the preparation for the new football season has only just started, AZ will already play its first official game tomorrow. In the context of the second round of the Conference League, FK Tuzla City from Bosnia and Herzegovina will visit Alkmaar. “They are survivors. That is part of that region of the world,” said AZ coach Pascal Jansen.

Tuzla City finished second in the final standings of the competition last season, but according to Jansen, the ranking and status of the Eastern Bloc team should not be looked at too much. “The Bosnian competition does not catch our eye, of course. But when Tuzla came up with the idea, I immediately started with my homework. And I can tell you that we have quite a bit of work to do tomorrow,” said Jansen.

“For the time being, Hobie Verhulst is preferred under the bar”

The match against Tuzla comes at a time when AZ is actually still in full preparation for the new Eredivisie season. “I prefer to see a lot of things differently when it comes to the European schedule,” says Jansen about the early start of the European campaign. “Qualifying starts now. We are very happy that we can start again this way and that is our number one priority.”

Pascal Jansen also addressed the question of who will be under the bar against Tuzla City. “For the time being, Hobie Verhulst has the preference. And so it will still be the same for tomorrow,” said Jansen, who thus places Peter Vindahl on the reserve bench for the time being. Jesper Karlsson and Yukinari Sugawara will not be there tomorrow anyway. The pair are still dealing with an injury.

The first game between AZ and Tuzla City in the second round of the Conference League is tomorrow evening in Alkmaar. Kick-off is at half past eight.
