AZ has attracted Riechedly Bazoer. The 25-year-old midfielder was transfer-free after his departure from Vitesse and will sign a contract in Alkmaar until the summer of 2025. This makes him the intended successor of Fredrik Midtsjø, who has received permission from AZ to complete his transfer to Galatasaray. to round.
“It feels fantastic to be here,” Bazoer says on the AZ website. “I had good conversations with Max Huiberts and Pascal Jansen. It became clear what they intend to do with me and I had a very positive feeling about that. I can’t wait to start. AZ is always a good team, plays good positional play and is on the ball a lot. I like that. Everything is right and I am happy to sign here today.”
Bazoer played for years in the youth of PSV, where Ajax took him away in 2012. In 2014 he made his debut in Ajax’s first team and was given a promising future. VfL Wolfsburg picked him up in 2017 and the German club rented him out to FC Porto and FC Utrecht. That all turned out to be not very successful, after which Bazoer ended up at Vitesse in 2019.
“Riechedly has consciously chosen to take a step within the Netherlands,” says director of football affairs Max Huiberts. “AZ fits perfectly into that picture for him. With a view to the imminent departure of Fredrik Midtsjø, we acted quickly to ensure quality in the midfield. Riechedly has great insight, excellent technical skills and also physically stands his ground. He has amply proven that in the Eredivisie. It is clear that he has many qualities.”

With the arrival of Bazoer, AZ is responding to the transfer of Fredrik Midtsjø. The Norwegian midfielder has been given permission by the club to complete his move to Galatasaray. With that, the departure of Midtsjø seems only a matter of time. After the arrival of Mees de Wit, Mayckel Lahdo, Jens Odgaard and Zinho Vanheusden, Bazoer is AZ’s fifth summer acquisition.

The Alkmaarders will play the first game in the third preliminary round of the Conference League on Thursday evening. The team of trainer Pascal Jansen will then visit Dundee United. On Sunday at 4.45 pm, AZ will start the competition with a home game against Go Ahead Eagles.
