AZ will hold various promotions around the match against Feyenoord next Sunday. That is for former player Donny van Iperen, who ended up in a coma during a football match in August. For example, the competition shirts worn will be auctioned and Van Iperen will be present digitally.
The defender from Sint Pancras unfortunately collided with the opponent’s keeper during the match between FC Zimbru and Dinamo-Auto. He became unconscious. Van Iperen was immediately taken to hospital, where he would stay for a week. He was then transferred to the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. It was found that his thalumus is damaged, an important part of the brain.

Van Iperen woke up in the Dutch hospital and has now started a very difficult rehabilitation period. His future is still very uncertain. The family has therefore started a fundraiser to pay for his treatments. AZ puts signatures on the shirts worn against Feyenoord, after which they are auctioned. The defender never played for the Rotterdam team, but their match shirts are also made available.
To donate
Bidding on the shirts can be made from the start signal of the match, next Sunday 4.45 pm. The auctions close October 22 at 4 PM. All proceeds will be donated to the GoFundMe for Van Iperen. You can bid or donate via the following link. Van Iperen will be digitally present via KPN Klasgenoot. This is a project for children with long-term illness, who can continue to follow lessons in this way. The defender will be able to see and speak to the football players through a screen and robot.
