The world football association FIFA has today paid a total of 187 million euros to clubs that gave up their players during the last World Cup in Qatar. With more than three million euros, Ajax received the most of all Dutch clubs. AZ received almost four hundred thousand euros.
Ajax lost no less than eleven players at the last World Cup. For the Netherlands, these were Remko Pasveer, Daley Blind, Jurriën Timber, Kenneth Taylor, Davy Klaassen, Steven Berghuis and Steven Bergwijn. The Mexicans Edson Álvarez and Jorge Sánchez, the Serbian Dusan Tadic and the Ghanaian Mohammed Kudus were also active in Qatar.
AZ takes advantage
AZ received exactly 371,657 euros from FIFA. Nevertheless, no players from AZ were active at the last World Cup. However, FIFA divides the fee per player among the club(s) for which he played in the two years prior to the World Cup. In this way, the Alkmaarders benefited, among other things, from the participation of former players Teun Koopmeiners at the Orange and Zakaria Aboukhlal at Morocco.
