Axel Ronse challenges Van Quickenborne and goes all out…

Dear Kortrijkzaan,

On October 13, I will be your candidate mayor.

The city must return to its core tasks: ensuring cleanliness, decent traffic and safety. Kortrijk must become the cleanest and safest city in Flanders.

Choose me as mayor and I guarantee you more for your money. We are going for a Kortrijk in shape. A minimal government that focuses on what is essential. A city that calls on the responsibility of its residents and that is fair and social.

I got into politics because I want to pass on a better society to the next generation. That is why those who work should be better rewarded. Those who do not make an effort to find work should be excluded from benefits.

Our children must receive a decent education. The bar should not be lowered because many classmates are unable to speak Dutch. There needs to be more respect for teachers. We cannot expect them to take over all the responsibilities of parents. The role of our teachers is to transfer knowledge.

What does that have to do with Kortrijk? These may seem like matters of national politics, but don’t be mistaken. As a city we can do a lot about this. With the OCMW and our share in the social housing societies, we will have a major impact on social policy. We reward those who want to work and learn Dutch. Those who cut corners will feel it in their benefits.

Caring for our children and the elderly is essential. With me as mayor, we will invest in affordable and sufficient childcare. We do this at the expense of other things that we will no longer do as a city. The same goes for our elderly. They are entitled to the best care and infrastructure. Kortrijk must have the best childcare and residential care centers.

In concrete terms: with me as mayor you choose clean neighborhoods, decent pedestrian and cycle paths, more respect for teachers and police, a strict and firm approach to benefits, a focus on Dutch and significant investments in childcare and infrastructure for the elderly.

I have been your Alderman for Culture since 2019. That is the greatest honor I have ever received. I believe very strongly in the power of our cultural associations. They give our city a soul. Many people come together around their passion and imagination. This is how you build a city.

From next year I hope to be your mayor. I’m going ‘already in’. Whoever receives the most preferential votes from the largest party within the coalition becomes mayor. So I need your support more than ever.

Let’s come together and rock hard in the coming months.

Your candidate mayor,

Axel Ronse
