Alexander Zverev will face Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz from Spain in the group phase of the ATP Finals in Turin. This was the result of the draw before the start of the tennis tour’s prestigious year-end event on Sunday.
The Olympic champion’s other opponents in the preliminary round are the Russians Daniil Medvedev and Andrej Rublev. The exact schedule was not initially announced.
The best two in each of the two groups of four qualify for the semi-finals on November 18th. The next day, the grand finale takes place in front of 20,000 spectators on the hard court in the Pala Alpitour Arena in Turin, which is hosting the competition for the third time in a row.
The two-time finals winner Zverev, who triumphed in 2018 and 2021, goes into the tournament with outsider chances. Recently, after an initially strong comeback season, the Hamburg player was in mixed form and rarely looked good, especially against the top players on the tour.
The second group is led by defending champion Novak Djokovic. The Grand Slam record winner will meet Jannik Sinner (Italy), Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) and Boris Becker protégé Holger Rune (Denmark).
