As of: 08/25/2023 9:58 p.m

SC Paderborn missed the hoped-for next step towards the top group in the 2nd Bundesliga and instead suffered their second defeat of the season at 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

Still without the injured ex-national player Max Kruse, East Westphalia lost 2-1 (0-0) against 1. FC Kaiserslautern on the fourth day of the game and were unable to repeat their recent win at Fortuna Düsseldorf (2-1).

Knights and Ache meet for Kaiserslautern

Ex-Paderborner Marlon Ritter (59th minute) and Ragnar Ache (64th) scored for the guests. Florent Muslija (73rd) only shortened for the SCP, who has so far fallen short of expectations with four points. FCK, who started the season with two defeats, have now worked their way out of the bottom of the table with six points.

Both teams had only celebrated their first win of the season on the third day of the season, wanted to do more and started accordingly briskly. Overall, Paderborn had clear advantages and the first good chances in the first half. However, Filip Bilbija (7th) and Sebastian Klaas (29th) failed because of Lautern’s keeper Julian Krahl, who again replaced the suspended Andreas Luthe.

Muslija hit comes too late for Paderborn

Somewhat surprisingly, Kaiserslautern then dominated after the break. First, Ache headed to Ritter in an exemplary manner, who completed the shot from close range to the lead.

A little later, the former Frankfurt Bundesliga professional Ache did it himself with his head and put the game completely on the same. Grimaldi’s first second division goal in almost eight years – back then for Heidenheim in Paderborn – made it exciting again.

Paderborn now to Kiel

Paderborn travels to Kiel on Matchday 5 (Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 1 p.m.). In Kaiserslautern, 1. FC Nürnberg (8.30 p.m.) await in the top game in front of a home crowd.
