Awards Gazzetta: the Team of the Year award goes to Milan

AC Milan 2022 will retain a special place in the soul of the Milan fans, regardless of what will become of this strange broken season, with the Scudetto on the chest and a World Cup in the middle of the championship. AC Milan champion of Italy 2022 will be for many Rossoneri the youth team, with which many fifteen, twenty and thirty year olds have identified. A team that plays free, attacks as soon as it can, is not afraid to take risks and always finds a way to solve problems with the strength of the group. Milan were not the strongest team at the beginning of the season and they are certainly not the strongest Italian champion of the century, yet they win prizes after prizes, they deserve the recognition of team of the year at the Gazzetta Sports Awards. No group, like that of Pioli, has invited millions of people to a great popular festival, which exploded in two days, May 22-23, in which Milan seemed to be traversed by a Rossoneri carnival. No team has a soundtrack – “Pioli is on fire” – which in twenty years will make everyone, AC Milan fans or not, remember the Sundays at the beginning of 2022, when Giroud overturned the derby and Leao became the best player in the league.

The Scudetto has filled pages and pages and about that group – 25 players, a coach, two managers, more than a few managers – everything has been written about, perhaps everything. How can you summarize everything in a flash? With an image: Giroud’s turn on De Vrij, the moment in which half of Milan tore the triangle on the chest from the cousins. With a feeling: enthusiasm, because Pioli was good at lighting a fire in training and feeding it day after day, game after game. With a story: that of Sandro Tonali, who at the beginning of the year was considered overrated and a year later commands the team as if he had done nothing else in life (and in fact, in his childhood dreams, he must have already lived through a few dozen times).

Or – and it would make sense – Tatarusanu and Daniel Maldini, who in their own way were decisive against Inter and Spezia, making the world think that, in a Milan like this, there will always be a reserve ready to become the protagonist, and if the reserve of the reserve is necessary, until the last man standing – as they say in the United States.
