Good news for fans of award-winning documentaries. ‘The secret of Mother Heil’ can be seen on Brabant+, the streaming service of Omroep Brabant.
In the Netherlands, between 15,000 and 25,000 children were given up for adoption in the last century. Usually by young, unmarried women who had become pregnant. They gave up their child through so-called transit houses, often under heavy pressure. Moederheil in Breda was such a transit house.
The documentary won the Gouden Regiohelden Award of 2022. This is the annual prize for the best journalistic production of all regional public broadcasters. The makers also went home with the prize for the Best Documentary of 2022.
From village to city
Are you from Veldhoven or the surrounding area? Then you will certainly enjoy ‘One city. Four faces’ about the origins and growth of Veldhoven, which only existed a hundred years ago. We speak to well-known residents, such as Bertus Borgers and DJ B-Front. Less famous, but no less special Veldhoven residents also have their say. The themes range from music, business and sports to war, health care and culture.
Brabant under the Radar
Can’t get enough of our offer and want to binge another program? Also nominated for a Regiohelden award was the series ‘Brabant under the Radar’, in which we take a look at the fight against the undermining of Brabant society by criminals. What is happening in Brabant? The episodes deal with topics such as hemp, synthetic drugs, money laundering, intimidation and threats and drug waste dumping. What is being done about it and what can the people of Brabant do themselves?
In the footsteps of Napoleon
Actually, we can’t choose. There is so much beauty on Brabant+. One last tip: watch the series ‘Merlin in the footsteps of Napoleon’. Presenter Merlijn Passier travels through Brabant again with his inseparable cameraman Okkie Ros. This time the men are walking in the footsteps of King Louis Napoleon, who made a historic tour of our province in 1809. Merlijn goes in search of his legacy and in the meantime meets the most wonderful people in the ‘most beautiful’ province of the Netherlands.
