Award for worst dressed act at the Eurovision Song Contest no longer awarded | Music

MusicThe Barbara Dex Award, an annual prize awarded to the worst dressed Songfestival artist, no longer exists. Organizer Songfestival.be believes that the award in question is no longer appropriate. “The load of this award is no longer possible in 2022.”

The Barbara Dex Award has been around since 1997 and was created by the Dutch fansite House of Eurovision. The website came up with the idea after the participation of our own Barbara Dex in 1993. Her homemade dress was the topic of conversation at the time. In 2017, Songfestival.be took over the award. The website has tried in recent years to get rid of the negative connotation that comes with the price. For example, they tried to shift the focus to the most striking outfit, but according to the website they did not succeed. As a result, they have decided to discontinue the Barbara Dex Award.

New award

The website wants to create a new award this year. “The last thing we want is to hurt people. We want to create an award that celebrates rather than puts something down.” The website does not yet have a name for the new price, but the concept is already clear. From now on, Songfestival.be wants to present an award for the most remarkable outfit.

Last year the Barbara Dex Award went to Norwegian singer TIX. He is therefore also the last artist to receive the prize. During his participation last year, he stood out because of the chains he was stuck with. In addition, his large angel wings, white fur coat and glittery suit were also quite striking.
