Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg violated KHL rules

At the beginning of May, the KHL club Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg announced the contracts of three Finnish players.

The trio included a goalkeeper Juha Metsoladefender Jyrki Jokipakka and striker Miro Aaltonen. However, it quickly became clear that the agreements had already been signed during the period before Russia began killing people in Ukraine.

For example, a Metsola agent Jarmo Kork told Metsalta at the time that Metsola had already signed its contract in January.

Now Russian Championship writes that the KHL agreements of the Finns revealed a hidden loophole in the series. When Kork revealed that Metsola had signed its contract in the middle of the season, Kork became aware that Avtomobilist had violated the rules of the series.

According to Championat, Article 5, paragraph 1.31, states that a player may sign contracts with other clubs inside or outside Russia only after the player has been released from the obligations of the previous club.

Similarly, Article 58, paragraph 1.37, states that clubs may not enter into contracts in the middle of a season if a player has a valid contract with another KHL club.

In practice, player contracts are signed just in the middle of the season, but they are not announced until the end of the season.

Championat thinks the club made the agreements public because it wanted to show they are now in force. It would therefore cost to dismantle them.

Kork said that Metsola will not go to war in the war and that work has begun to terminate the contract.

Last season, Juha Metsola played in the ranks of Salavat Yulayev Ufa. MATTI RAIVIO / AOP
