Avicii’s song Wake Me Up has sold diamonds in the United States. It is the first time that a Swedish artist reaches the sales figures required for the diamond certificate. Reported about it Billboard.

The US audio industry’s interest organization RIAA introduced the diamond disc in 1999. It is awarded for at least ten million recordings sold. Since its introduction, only 111 pieces of the diamond plate have been received in the United States.

Wake Me Up reached ten million records sold on Friday, June 16 – almost exactly 10 years after the song’s release, as Avicii’s hit single was released on June 17, 2013. The song spent 54 weeks on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, peaking at number four.

It is also the first electronic dance music track to reach diamond status. In the same genre, the next most successful songs are by Major Lazer and DJ Snake Lean Onof Owl City Fireflies and Daft Punk Get Lucky.

Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, died aged just 28 in 2018. His other hit songs include Hey Brother, The Nights and Levels.
