In the aviation sector, 536 infections per 100,000 people have been recorded in the past two weeks. Lode Godderis, professor of occupational medicine at KU Leuven, reports this. This makes aviation good for the highest number of infections of all sectors studied.
The dates cover the period from May 31 to June 13. Different sectors can be compared with each other on the basis of data from health institute Sciensano. The figures are viewed on the basis of the fourteen-day incidence, i.e. the number of infections per 100,000 people.
The average incidence in the general population in the measured period was 189, the incidence in the working population was 239. This means that the number of infections among employees has risen above that of the general society for the first time.
Care and education
For a long time the reverse was the case. In the previous report, covering the period from 17 to 30 May, the incidence in the general population was still 291 and that in the working population at 214. The number of infections is therefore rising faster among employees than in general.
The figures therefore indicate that the virus is circulating in various sectors. As always, the healthcare sector and education are at the top of the list. In addition, there are still infections in the research and development sector, the chemical industry and the telecom and pharmaceutical sector.
