It can be read that the local emergency center received a report about a patient who was staying in a hotel and who had chest pain. An ambulance was then sent to the hotel, but once they reached Hawkins, the musician stopped responding. Attempts were made to resuscitate him, but his death was announced shortly after. An investigation was then launched in accordance with protocol to determine the cause of death. That is not yet known.
Hawkins was on tour with his band. On Sunday they would give a concert in São Paulo. That show, during the Brazilian edition of the Lollapalooza festival, would be the last performance of their tour of South America.
Foo Fighters announced on Saturday morning, Dutch time, that Hawkins (50) has passed away. He joined the band in 1997, two years after its formation, led by frontman Dave Grohl, who was himself a former drummer for Nirvana.
