Authoritarian Prime Minister Jansa loses Slovenian elections | Abroad

The Freedom Movement received almost 33 percent of the vote, according to the first results. Jansa’s conservative party SDS would fail at 25 percent.

Only two other parties, the Social Democrats (SD) and the Christian Democratic Conservative NSi (Nova Slovenija or New Slovenia), reached the 4 percent threshold to sit in the Ljubljana parliament.

Either way, the largest party will have to find coalition partners to form a new government. With these results, Golob could form a majority with the Social Democrats. Jansa, on the other hand, would not get a majority together with New Slovenia, his traditional coalition partner.

The two main left-wing parties have already ruled out joining a coalition led by the SDS.
