Former German international Miroslav Klose takes on his first job as head coach in professional football at SCR Altach in Austria.
The 44-year-old succeeds Ludovic Magnin, as the club announced. The World Cup record scorer will sign his contract in Altach on Sunday and will be officially presented next Monday. “I’m really looking forward to my new job here in Altach. Right from the start it was just this positive feeling that I have to have, that I’m in the right place here,” said Klose, according to the club’s press release.

The 2014 soccer world champion announced in May last year that he had to take a break due to thrombosis in his leg. He had previously said goodbye as assistant coach at FC Bayern Munich. Most recently, Klose was under discussion as a coach at his former club 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
“Miro Klose is a very big name in football. But it’s not about the name for us, it’s about Miro Klose’s personality, his skills as a coach and what is very important to us at SCR Altach: the people.”, said Altach’s managing director Christoph Längle. Klose is known as a “down-to-earth worker”. “The values he stands for are a perfect match for our club”said Langle.
