Australia reopens borders, only for vaccinated people

Australia reopened its borders to travelers from abroad on Monday after nearly two years, provided they have received two doses of the corona vaccine. The country closed its borders to everyone except citizens and permanent residents in March 2020, with a few exceptions.

“Some 56 flights will land in Australia in the next 24 hours,” Prime Minister Scott Morrison said at Melbourne International Airport on Sunday. “And that number will only grow.”

However, the quarantine requirements maintained by Australia’s states and territories, as well as restrictions they have placed on the number of international arrivals, remain in effect.
