The Australian National Football Team qualified for the finals by beating Peru 5-4 on penalties in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying intercontinental play-off final match.
Australia, which eliminated the UAE in the 4th round of the Asian qualifiers, and Peru, which took the 5th place in the South American qualifying group, faced off at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Er-Reyyan, Qatar.
When the normal time of the fight and the overtime part ended 0-0, penalty shootouts were started. Australia, which had a 5-4 advantage over its opponent in penalties, became the 31st team to receive a Qatar 2022 visa.
Australia will compete in Group D, which includes France, Denmark and Tunisia at the FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December.
The 32nd and last team to participate in Qatar 2022 will be determined after the Costa Rica-New Zealand match, which will start at 21.00 CEST.
