Australia is preparing for a very warm spring: up to 15 degrees warmer than average in the coming days | Weather news

Australia is preparing for a very warm spring, with temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above average in the coming days.

“Currently temperatures in the south of the country are 5 to 10 degrees above average,” said Miriam Bradbury of the Australian Weather Service. “This weekend this will rise to 15 degrees above normal temperatures for this time of year in some regions.”

Sydney is forecast to reach 32 to 34 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, barely below the record for this time of year. That is 34.6 degrees.

In the capital Canberra it could reach 28 degrees on Monday. There the record for September is 30 degrees.

According to the meteorological institute, it is very exceptional that a heat wave is observed so early in the year. The summer is expected to be the warmest since 1996.

Australia is therefore holding its breath for a summer like that of 2019-2020. Then large parts of the country were reduced to ashes by forest fires, which left about thirty people dead.
