Australia and Japan will impose sanctions against Minsk because of the operation in Ukraine

According to the head of the Australian Foreign Ministry, the sanctions will affect key people in the country’s leadership. The Yomiuri Sinbun newspaper reported that the Japanese authorities are also exploring such a possibility after the introduction of similar measures by Washington.

Australia will impose sanctions against the Belarusian leadership, Australian Foreign Minister Maris Payne said at a press conference, its fragment published on the politician’s Twitter page.

“Today we will take steps to impose sanctions on key figures in the Belarusian government who support Russia and facilitate the invasion,” she said.

The fact that Japan is studying the possibility of imposing sanctions, informed newspaper Yomiuri Simbun. According to her, the Japanese authorities took this step after the United States announced the imposition of sanctions.

Western countries began to impose restrictions against Russian politicians and organizations after the start of the military operation in Ukraine. In his February 24 speech, Russian President Vladimir Putin explained that the country is taking this step to protect the civilian population of a neighboring country from “genocide.” Moscow does not intend to occupy its territories, the head of state continued, and wants to achieve denazification and demilitarization of Ukraine. On February 26, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said at a meeting of the organization’s Security Council that the military operation in Ukraine would end in the near future, since all its goals would be achieved.
