The new model of the Audi Q8 e-tron will no longer be built at the Audi factory in Forest. The management of Audi Brussels has communicated this to the unions, confirms ACV trade unionist Ronny Liedts. About 3,000 people work in the factory.
LOOK. Unions today expressed their concerns about the future of the factory
Earlier, based on reports from the Reuters news agency and the German car trade magazine Automobilwoche, it appeared that Audi is reorganizing its global production network. The Brussels factory could be left without a model after 2027. Production of the new model of the electric Q8, which is currently rolling off the production line in Brussels, will certainly move to factories in Mexico.
“It is no surprise to us that the successor to the Audi Q8 e-tron will no longer be built in Forest. It was almost certain that it would be built in Mexico,” says ACV trade unionist Ronny Liedts.
But what does that mean for employment? About 3,000 people work in the factory. “The management still promises that a different model will come to Vorst and that there is a future for the company, but that remains uncertain. No new model means no need for a factory after 2027. That’s simple, right,” Liedts concludes.
