Audi boss formulates clear Formula 1 goals

The Formula 1 project is already casting huge shadows at the German automobile manufacturer Audi. In 2026, the brand wants to enter the premier class of motorsport, and 240 employees have already been brought together for this purpose. Project manager Adam Baker now spoke about the ambitious goals that Audi is pursuing with its entry into F1.

In an interview with “Sport Bild”, the 48-year-old, who has also worked for BMW in Formula 1, emphasized the ambition of the entire group with which the Formula 1 project has been pursued since last year: “Motorsport is part of the Audi DNA. And of course a brand like this doesn’t get into Formula 1 to follow. We want to be successful. That’s the claim, otherwise you have no place in the sport.”

According to the Australian, who has also held German citizenship for five years, everyone in the Audi team is aware of the proven strength of the competition.

“But there will be far-reaching changes in the technical regulations for the power unit and chassis. It’s a challenge for everyone, not just for us. As newcomers, this gives us the chance to be competitive more quickly,” explained Baker.

The budget upper limit, which applies to all designers in Formula 1, is also an advantage for the newcomer, as it guarantees “reliable financial planning”. Baker emphasizes: “Without them, entry would not have been so attractive.”

Audi project manager “super proud” about entering Formula 1

The sporting goals for the first seasons in the premier class have also been clearly formulated. According to the project manager for Audi, in 2026 it will initially be about “that we have the highest possible reliability”.

After that, it should also go up steadily in terms of placements, as Baker explained: “Our goal is to be up front in the third year. We need a top drive for that.”

The entire team wants to prove in Formula 1 what “Made in Germany” stands for. According to Baker for “a reliable drive unit at the highest level. We are super proud that there is again a German location for participation in Formula 1.”
