The conspiracy theorist Attila Hildmann could probably be extradited to Germany. Hildmann fled to Turkey after an arrest warrant, the authorities assumed that he could not be extradited because of his Turkish citizenship. As the “Stern” reported, Hildmann probably does not own them.

“According to local knowledge, the accused only has German citizenship,” said a spokesman for the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office of the magazine. So far, the public prosecutor had stated that extradition was not possible because Turkey did not extradite its citizens as a matter of principle. Now the spokesman said that it has been known since March that Hildmann is only a German citizen. He did not want to say whether the federal government had actually submitted an extradition request.

Hildmann was born in Berlin to Turkish parents but grew up with German adoptive parents. He himself said that he acquired Turkish citizenship by birth. Apparently that’s not true.

He became known as the author of vegan cookbooks, but since the beginning of the corona pandemic he has mainly been known for spreading conspiracy theories. Among other things, he is said to have said at a demonstration in Berlin that if he were Reich Chancellor, he would “have the death penalty for [den Grünen-Politiker] reintroduce Volker Beck”. In 2021 he was charged with incitement to hatred and using symbols belonging to unconstitutional or terrorist organizations.
