Attention road users: busy evening rush hour expected

Rijkswaterstaat warns of a busy evening rush hour. Because winter time started last weekend, everyone is suddenly driving in the dark again. “We know from experience that driving in the dark can sometimes take some getting used to for some road users,” said Rijkswaterstaat.

It’s not just the darkness that causes more traffic jams. The autumn holidays are over, which also means more people on the road. Rain is also forecast. When it is dark or raining, road users keep more distance from each other for safety reasons. But this means there is less traffic on the road. This in turn causes longer traffic jams.

Be extra alert

Rijkswaterstaat’s advice is therefore: be extra alert. “Visibility is reduced in the dark and brake lights can appear brighter and cause distraction.”

In addition, Rijkswaterstaat also recommends that you be well prepared on the road: “Check whether your car lighting is in order and make sure your mirrors and car windows are clean. Top up the windshield fluid if necessary. Furthermore, keep in mind that when the sun shines, it is lower than you are used to, because time has shifted.”
