Scam messages sent in the name of OmaVero are circulating before Monday’s tax refund day.
Monday 4.9. hundreds of thousands of Finns will be paid a large pot of tax refunds – even the scammers know this.
Fraudulent messages are being sent again in the name of the tax administration, in which criminals try to get hold of the personal information of tax clients, such as bank information.
Scam messages come disguised as the OmaVero service and seem credible. The message tells about the victim’s right to a tax refund, and the message has a link attached to the scam website.
The link should not be opened under any circumstances and the message should be deleted immediately. The tax administration says on its pagesto never send messages with an attached link.
– If you have opened the message, do not open the attachments or links in it, because you can get malware on your computer from them, the Tax Administration says.
The Tax Administration says that in addition to scam messages, scams made in the name of the tax administration are also circulated by e-mail and also by phone calls. In addition, internet search engines may contain advertisements that direct the user to a scam page disguised as a tax administration website.
– The message may demand, for example, unpaid taxes or tell about a tax refund that does not exist.
If you have mistakenly opened the link and given your information to the scammer, you should first contact the bank to prevent the account transfers, and you should also file a criminal complaint.
The safest way to access the website of the Tax Administration is to enter www.vero.fi in the address field of the browser.
