Attacks and damage to property at a feminist demonstration

The organizers broke up the feminist demonstration “Take Back the Night” on Saturday evening in Berlin earlier than planned.

According to the police, there had previously been damage to vehicles, pyrotechnics were detonated and police officers were attacked. According to the observations of a dpa reporter, windows of a shop were destroyed in the Münzstrasse.

Bags of paint had previously been thrown at shops. There have been isolated arrests, said police spokeswoman Anja Dierschke. At first she could not give any information about the numbers. These should follow on Sunday.

The applicant ended the event at around 10:40 p.m. on Münzstrasse. The police then asked those present to leave the place in small groups. The protest march, which started at Mauerpark, was originally supposed to go to Alexanderplatz.

According to the police, around 2,500 people took part, mostly women. The mood was heated. The police stopped the protest march several times.
