Attacker Neres continues career at Benfica
David Neres continues his career at Benfica. The Brazilian attacker signed a five-year contract with the Portuguese club on Monday. He will play football there under Roger Schmidt, the trainer who said goodbye to PSV at the end of last season.
The 25-year-old Neres left Ajax in January for Shakhtar Donetsk. He became trapped in a hotel in Kiev after Russian soldiers invaded Ukraine. With the help of UEFA, he managed to flee to Romania. Neres then left for his native Brazil in anticipation of a new club.
Benfica eliminated Ajax in the eighth finals of the Champions League last season.
