Attacker Danny Hoesen of FC Emmen stops immediately. ‘Unfortunately there is nothing else to do’

Danny Hoesen has immediately put an end to his career. The 32-year-old attacker of FC Emmen is suffering too much from a hip injury. His contract, which ran until the end of this season, has been terminated in good consultation.

Danny Hoesen was presented by FC Emmen in mid-February as an experienced acquisition who could play an important role in the fight against relegation, but the marriage was rather unfortunate. In four appearances for the club from Drenthe, the former striker of Ajax, FC Groningen and San Jose Earthquakes, among others, only played 103 minutes due to physical discomfort. As it turns out, this was due to a persistent hip injury.

Hoesen already came over battered from the United States, where he was recently under contract with Austin FC. “It was known that Danny was not in top shape at the time,” FC Emmen said via the club channels. “We worked together to get him fit. Unfortunately for both parties, it did not work out and it even turned out that Danny has such a hip injury that he had to decide to put an end to his career.”

‘My body says stop’

A major setback, Hoesen admits. “I came to FC Emmen to help the club in the battle for enforcement. After my time in America I wanted to return to the Netherlands and play football for years to come. The fact that I have to stop now is very hard for me personally. My body says stop, but my heart wants to keep going. Unfortunately, there is nothing for it but to stop. I want to thank FC Emmen for the trust and hope that the club will stay in the premier league.”
