The explosion that destroyed a window and a shutter in Passendalestraat in Breda on Sunday evening was at the home of a police officer. That’s what local residents say. The loud bang was around ten o’clock. No one was home at the time.
CCTV footage from the area shows a scooter slowly driving past around that time. A minute later two boys walk over from the other side. The first person puts something down, after which the other lights something. After a lot of smoke, an explosion follows. According to the police, these are heavy fireworks.
It’s not the first time boys have walked around the house. CCTV footage shows two boys walking to the back of the house on September 7. One boy helps the other over the wall. That boy is doing something in the garden, but nothing else happens.
The police do not want to say anything about who lives in the house on Passendalestraat.
Unrest in the neighborhood
Local residents say that it has been restless in the Breda-Noord neighborhood in recent weeks. A group of about seven boys between the ages of 15 and 18 is causing unrest. For example, containers were set on fire and a bicycle was destroyed, one of the local residents said.
A scooter burned out in front of the house where heavy fireworks went off on Sunday evening.
It is not clear whether the arson and destruction have anything to do with blowing up the roller shutter. It is also not clear whether the man’s position has anything to do with the explosion.
