According to a media report, the Brandenburg public prosecutor’s office has filed charges against an 18-year-old on suspicion of preparing a serious act of violence that is dangerous to the state.

As reported by the “Märkische Allgemeine Zeitung” (print/Saturday), the accused was charged before the youth lay judges’ court at the Potsdam district court.

The Attorney General in Brandenburg an der Havel confirmed this, it said. The authority could not be reached for inquiries on Saturday. The German, classified as a threat, is suspected of having planned a bomb attack.

The suspect was taken into custody in early June. He is said to have obtained instructions for the construction of weapons, ammunition and explosive devices and also made the first attempts at explosives. Instructions for this were secured during searches. The crimes are said to have a right-wing extremist background. It was not yet clear when the process would begin.

The investigators had been on the trail of the young man from Potsdam some time before. According to a statement from the authorities in the summer, he tried to promote a “revolution against the system” in social media, especially among young people.

As early as July 2021, the police had found chemicals and a large number of things glorifying National Socialism when they searched the accused’s rooms.
