Opposition party Vlaams Belang in Kortrijk wants the police council to meet in an emergency session.
“The facts of violence in Kortrijk are piling up and are becoming more and more serious,” responds party leader and MP Wouter Vermeersch (Vlaams Belang).
“The physical attacks on our officers are almost uncountable and this is also the second attack on the Kortrijk police in three years. Without drastic action, the situation threatens to escalate even further. It is time for stronger action to be taken against that violence.
We must focus on the increased insecurity in Kortrijk and its sub-municipalities and on combating the increasing violence against our officers. But we always feel that the city coalition of Team Mayor (Open VLD), N-VA and Vooruit in Kortrijk is afraid to call it a day.”
