‘More security is not the solution’

Amsterdam – It’s every museum director’s nightmare. A visitor who attacks a work of art with a knife, caustic acid or, somewhat less aggressively, with a cake, as happened in the Louvre in Paris on Sunday. “Theft or damage is the worst thing that can happen to a museum. This will put you back on track. However, taking more security measures is not the solution,” says Han Steenbruggen, director of the Museum Belvédère in Oranjewoud.
