Jan-Lennard Struff experienced a bitter day at the Munich ATP tournament. It made a clear defeat against the Argentinian Francisco Cerúndulo.
0: 6 – A tournament cannot begin much worse. Last year Jan-Lennard Struff won the ATP tournament in Munich, and there was nothing to be seen in the first set of his dominant appearances from that time. The Argentinian Francisco Cerúndulo, currently 22nd place in the world rankings, gave Struff no chance.
In the second set, too, Cerúndulo quickly tied the Warsteiner a service game and then had little effort to finally defend this lead. In the end, Struff’s appearance at the Aumeister was a very short matter. 0: 6, 2: 6-Cerúndulo moved more than confidently into the round of 16 of the ATP-500 tournament and is considered a co-favorite on the title. Struff, who was already eliminated in doubles with Andreas Mies the day before, this trip to Munich was extremely frustrating.
Yannick Hanfmann fights into the next round
It went much better for Yannick Hanfmann. The Karlsruhe tennis professional, currently 135 in the world rankings, surprisingly prevailed against the emerging Czech Youngster Jakub Mensik. The 19-year-old is currently number 23 in the world rankings and recently won the final of the 1000 master in Miami against Novak Djokovic in two sets.
Against Hanfmann, in Munich, it was over after the first round. Hanfmann won the first set in the tiebreak, the second set won 6: 3 before Hanfmann prevailed 6: 4 in the decisive third set. Tomorrow is waiting in the round of 16 of the Dutch Tallon Griekspoor.
17-year-old Justin Engel without an opportunity
The 17-year-old Nuremberg Justin Engel, currently the youngest tennis player in the top 500 in the world, was unable to present his great potential in his debut in Munich. He got into the tournament well against the experienced Hungary Fabian Maroszan, but finally had to give up 4: 6 in the first set. In the second sentence it became clear: Maroszan won 6-1.
