For Yannick Hanfmann, the dream of the final in Munich is already over. The 31-year-old from Karlsruhe lost his match against defending champion Holger Rune 3:6 and 4:6. Daniel Altmaier also says goodbye.

In cool weather, Yannick Hanfmann lost the first set very clearly on Thursday with 3:6 to defending champion Holger Rune. For the 19-year-old top favorite of the tournament, the round of 16 duel was the start of the Munich ATP tournament. Hanfmann, on the other hand, made it into the top 16 by beating Brazilian Thiago Monteiro. “Difficult running today, very, very cold,” said Hanfmann. “It hurts to be eliminated in the second round”.

In the second set, Hanfmann was able to defend himself at times, but in the end he was unable to defeat the energetic Dane. After an hour and 23 minutes, Rune had the match point and ended the game with a forehand shot. Hanfmann was beaten 4:6 and can pack his bags again. “A top match,” said Rune, who had wished for this debut.

Altmaier is eliminated against Karazew

Daniel Altmaier also missed the round of 16 at the Munich clay court tournament. The 24-year-old from Kempen was beaten by the Russian Aslan Karazew 6: 4, 6: 7 (2: 7), 2: 6. The match was stopped due to rain on Wednesday when the score was 0:3 in the third set. Karazew converted his third match point after 2:59 hours.

Altmaier, who won a Challenger tournament in the USA on Sunday, started the game well and initially benefited from many minor mistakes by the Russian. In the second set, the German missed ten opportunities to take the serve from his opponent. Even after the game resumed, the Davis Cup professional had several breakballs.
