Alexander Zverev does not get anything for his birthday on the clay court in Munich. The 26-year-old lost 6: 7 and 4: 6 to Australian Christopher O’Connell at the ATP tournament.
Alexander Zverev was eliminated in his first match at the ATP tournament in Munich. Against the Australian Christopher O’Connell he had to admit defeat in just two sets. O’Connell was the better player in this early phase and made the first break in the game to make it 3-1. But Zverev fought and so he managed the rebreak and then equalized to 3: 3. The Hamburger still makes it exciting through unnecessary mistakes.
After all, Zverev was able to improve, but he didn’t want to succeed in another break. So it went to the 6:6 in the tie-break. O’Connell secured four set balls with an ace (2: 6), Zverev threw everything in, but the Australian won the first set 6: 7 (2: 7). Zverev’s game showed deficits, especially on the first serve. With a rate of 41 percent, he rarely got through in the first set.
Zverev has to fight

The Australian gave him the first breakball, but the Hamburger couldn’t take the chance due to a return error. O’Connell made it 2-2. And Zverev gives him the chance to break the ball with a double fault – which the 28-year-old uses. Zverev was now a set and a break behind.
The Australian delivered, Zverev had to fight the opponent’s second break chance. So under pressure he made it 3:4. When O’Connell served, Zverev suddenly got going. The Olympic champion had three break chances, missed two, courageously converted the third on the net and turned the scoreboard to 4: 4 with the rebreak. But O’Conell remained unimpressed, managed the next break and was able to serve to win. The Australian showed no nerves and also won the second set. For Zverev, the appearance in Munich ends after the first mission.
