ATP Finals: Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner enter with victory

The Italian tennis professional Jannik Sinner has made his start at the ATPFinals won confidently in Turin. Novak Djokovic had a hard time against Holger Rune, but still celebrated in the end.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic made a successful start to the ATP finals, but had to fight for more than three hours for his first victory. The world number one from Serbia won his opening match in Turin late on Sunday evening against the young Danish star Holger Rune, trained by Boris Becker, after a tough fight 7:6 (7:4), 6:7 (1:7), 6:3.

After exactly 3:04 hours, the 36-year-old converted his first match point. It is also clear that Djokovic will end the year as number one in the world.

Sinner beats Tsitsipas

In the first game of Sunday, the Italian tennis professional Jannik Sinner started his ATP tournament.Finals won confidently in Turin against Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece). The local hero easily beat the Greek 6:4, 6:4 on Sunday (November 12th, 2023).

The 22-year-old submitted in the first set Break to the interim 3:2 to win the set. After 40 minutes, Sinner used the second set point to take a 1-0 lead. The Italian managed to do that straight away in the second set Break to 1-0. Tsitsipas was unable to counter, and Sinner won this set 6:4.

Semifinals as an interim goal

The two best placed teams from each of the two groups of four qualify for the semi-finals. In addition to Sinner and Tsitsipas, the green group also includes world number one Novak Djokovic (Serbia) and Becker’s protégé Holger Rune (Denmark). The two will face each other on Sunday evening from 9 p.m.

Alexander Zverev, who won the tournament in 2018 and 2021, belongs to the red group and starts the tournament on Monday with the game against Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz (Spain). Daniil Medvedev and Andrei Rublew will play against each other beforehand.
