Real, which already secured the title in La Liga last weekend and qualified for the Champions League final this week by beating Manchester City, saved many basic players against Atletico. Thibaut Courtois and Karim Benzema, among others, remained on the bench. Luka Modric and Vinícius Júnior came on in the second half.
The home side took the lead from a penalty just before half-time. After a long review of the images, the video referee ruled that Atlético deserved a penalty for a foul on Matheus Cunha. Yannick Carrasco left goalkeeper Andriy Loenin without a chance.
Atletico are 6 points ahead of number 5 Real Betis with the win. Fourth place entitles you to play in the Champions League next season. There are still three rounds left in La Liga.
Champion PSG draws for third time in a row
National champion Paris Saint-Germain was unable to win the home match against ESTAC Troyes. The game in the Parc des Princes ended in 2-2. For PSG it is the third game in a row in which the team gives away a lead and which ends in a draw.
Marquinhos put the home side ahead in the 6th minute and Neymar made it 2-0 with a penalty. Troyes, however, came back. Ike Ugbo scored the first goal for the visitors and Florian Tardieu also equalized from a penalty just after the break.

Olympique Marseille recovered from the elimination by Feyenoord in the semifinals of the Conference League. The team of coach Jorge Sampaoli won 3-0 at FC Lorient. Bamba Dieng, Matteo Guendouzi and Gerson scored the goals.
Marseille has taken back second place in Ligue 1 from AS Monaco with the win. There are still two rounds left in the French league.
